From The Classroom To The Coffee Shop

Before opening Modern Grind, owner Daphnie Kelly spent six years teaching second graders, which fueled her passion for helping her community.

But like many educators, she saw firsthand how hard it was for teachers to make ends meet.

“I was continuously seeing myself and other single teachers work multiple side jobs just to get by financially,” she explains.

Daphnie’s transition from teacher to entrepreneur wasn’t about leaving education behind. In fact, it was the opposite. She founded Modern Grind to create a space that supports hardworking educators and to build a business model rooted in fundraising and community support.

Modern Grind shows its gratitude by offering daily discounts as a small way to say thank you to teachers, military personnel, and first responders, who receive a daily 10% discount.

And for educators, there’s more: Teacher Tuesdays offer a 20% discount all day long, celebrating the profession that once was the center of Daphnie’s life.

Although the transition was not easy, having the opportunity to work in a space deeply rooted in those same values she held as a teacher makes it all a bit sweeter.

Whether you’re stopping in for your morning latte or winding down after a long day, know that at Modern Grind, your work is seen, valued, and appreciated, especially if you’re out there making a difference.
